BUMMULU RHODIUM

The Sicilian amphora par excellence. Tradition has it that the real bummulu is obtained from a mixture of terracotta and salt, the latter for its hygroscopic characteristics, guaranteed a porosity that allowed transpiration.
This maintained a moist external film which, by exuding, stabilized the cool temperature of the water or wine for many hours.
But our beloved amphora, an ancient companion of carters and travellers, is still today counted among the most characteristic instruments, because when empty, when blown into its cavity, it emits a low hiss, which is unique in its sound.
