Prickly Pear Gemini

The prickly pear is linked, in the collective imagination, to Sicily. Symbol of strength and color of the Island because the fruit comes from a wild plant that often not irrigated, survives a thousand bad weather. Here it is used as a precious food for the beginning of the working day of the farmer, especially in the harvest season; throughout the Island from San Cono to the slopes of Etna, from the Nisseno to the Agrigento area it is in fact tradition to eat prickly pears during breakfast. Custom that derives from the ancient custom of the owner of the vineyard who gave these sweet fruits without parsimony to his grape harvesters to prevent them from eating too many grapes during the harvest.
