In heraldry, the term Trinacria indicates a female head with three bent legs moving from it. Often, due to its triangular shape, Sicily is also defined in this way: from the ancient Greek “trinacrios,” which means treis (three) and àkra (promontories), like those that delimit the perimeter of the island.

It is the typical Sicilian amphora, companion of carters and travellers, today listed among the most characteristic instruments: blowing into its cavity, when it is empty, produces a low hiss unique in its sound.
